Understanding Death Certificates in Florida – What You Need to Know

When a loved one passes, there are many details to take care of — and ordering death certificates is an important step in the process.

At Cremation Society of America, we make this part easy. During our simple online arrangement process, you can request certified copies of the death certificate right from your computer or phone — no need to wait in line or track down forms.

How Many Death Certificates Should You Order?

Most families request 3 to 5 copies without the cause of death, which are commonly used for handling bank accounts, insurance policies, property deeds, and other legal matters.

In some cases, 1 or 2 copies with the cause of death are needed, especially if you’re dealing with life insurance or out-of-state arrangements.

You can always order more later, but it’s often faster and more cost-effective to get the copies you need upfront.

Each certified copy costs $20.50, and we’ll take care of submitting the request for you as part of our service.

Quick Tip: What’s the Difference Between “With” and “Without” Cause?

  • With cause of death: Lists the medical reason for passing — often required by insurance or estate attorneys.

  • Without cause of death: A more general version, used for most personal and financial matters.

We’re here to guide you every step of the way — if you’re unsure how many to order, just ask. Our team is happy to help.
